International Learning Resources

For my virtual classroom, I have the unique opportunity to organize and facilitate collaboration on a local, national, and global level. Here are some tools I have found to help achieve this goal:

ePals - https://www.epals.com/#/connections

While it is common for high school students to live in the bubble of their community, the effect is pronounced for virtual school students. ePals offers many different ways to encourage local and global collaboration.

I previously used a similar website, which is now defunct, to connect my students with a school in South Korea for cultural exchanges.

The Global Read Aloud - https://theglobalreadaloud.com/

I have not used this website yet, as they only have a once a year project starting in early October. The Global Read Aloud is a project that uses a common book to make global connections and start a dialogue with classrooms around the world.

Google Earth: Education - https://www.google.com/earth/education/

A familiar site for most educators, Google Earth has project ideas for classrooms that help explore the 'glocal' community. My favorite is Voyager, a guide that helps students create interactive global stories.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - https://sdgs.un.org/goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, as they are commonly known, should be a bookmarked website for any aspiring global educator. It is a great stating point to discover issues that affect everyone on a local and global scale.

The GLOBE Program - https://datasearch.globe.gov/

One of my favorite projects to complete with my programming students involve graphing different types of data in the Python programming lanaguge. The immense amount of data housed by the GLOBE program will keep my students busy for years!
